Not all launch monitors are the same!
There are
a few different launch monitors on the market today. Most
experts would agree the most accurate monitors are the ones
that take pictures of the ball as it is leaving the tee
(Frank Thomas, Golf Digest July 2003). Vector made by
Accusport is the most accurate of the type that takes
pictures of the ball. Pat Ryan Golf has had a Vector
launch monitor since 2003. We have incorporated it into our
wood/driver fitting process with incredible results.
The Vector
launch monitor provides us with readings on each shot that
include the following:
Ball
speed, vertical (launch angle), total spin, back spin, side
spin, side angle (push or pull), downrange (carry yardage),
offline (distance from center line of fairway), flight time
(time in the air), roll, and maximum height of the shot. It
will also evaluate the shot providing data on what changes
need to be made in the launch and spin rates for an optimal
shot. It also provides print outs of club averages in each
of these area for club comparison.
In
combination with our Golftek computer that analyzes swing,
this information is used to compare clubs of various
lengths, flexes, lofts, etc. to determine the best
combination for the individual. Once the proper
characteristics are determined then the Pat Ryan Golf staff
can develop a golf club for the individual providing them
with the optimal distance, accuracy, and feel.
Ball Fittings
The launch
monitor can also be used to determine what ball might best
suit the individual. Although there is very little
difference between balls today, some may create a higher or
lower launch, or more or less back spin that can have a
positive or negative effect on the shot. This fitting will
only provide valid information when the individual has a
consistent swing; hits the ball in the same area of the face
each time; and does not vary the ball placement in their
stance.
